Hi! My name is Greg Simkins and this is my personal blog dedicated to economic issues that interest me. I’m keen to bridge the gap between casual readers of economics and the academic world – which is often hard to access and understand for those without a degree in economics.
I began learning economics for my A-levels at my local state school, Biddenham Upper in Bedford, UK. I attended the University of Bristol to study Economics with a Year Abroad between 2014 and 2018. I did my year abroad at the National University of Singapore, where I became interested in development economics as a career. When I finished my degree I began working for the UK Civil Service in roles as a trade analyst and a competition economist between 2019 and 2021.
In summer 2022, I did a Masters in Economics at the Barcelona School of Economics, specialising in international development and trade. Since my masters I’ve worked as a research analyst at the World Bank in Washington D.C., where I’m predominantly worked on macro-development research regarding the impact of official development assistance. My main research interests are in development economics, growth, inequality, trade, and political economy.
I’m now living in Accra, Ghana, where I work as an economist within the National Accounts team at the Ghana Statistical Service.
In my spare time I love to cycle, play tennis, do photography, and travel.
